16 th Rabi ul Akhar, 975H. Ahmedabad
Syedna Jalal Shamsuddin (RA) was the first Dai to be buried in Hindustan.
Syedna received his education and training at the hands of Syedi Qasim bin Maulai Hasan, the governor of India. He later journeyed to Yemen along with Syedna Yusuf Najmuddin (RA) and Maulai Malak bin Firoz to be tutored by Syedi Hasan bin Nooh. He remained in Yemen until Syedna Exxuddin (RA) passed away which he accompanied Syedna Najmuddin (RA) to Egypt. He was then directed to go to India. Syedna served as governor of India in the age of Mohmoud Shah III for 20 years.
In Ahemdabad, Syedna bought a piece of land with the intention of building a colony for mumineen. He managed to arrange for half the amount required for construction, but he was not willing to draw the rest of the amount from the dawat account with out permission from the Dai. As a result the project was stalled. A fortnight later, Mamji bin Sheikha Mujaal came to Syedna and took upon himself the responsibility of completing the project as a token of his loyalty. Imam-uz- Zaman (AS) appeared twice in Syedna`s dreams. The first time, the bisharat of nass was given—that Syedna Yusuf Najmuddin (RA) had appointed him Dai al Mutlaq on his deathbed. The document of nass arrived later. The second time, Syedna was informed that he should appoint Syedna Dawood bin Ajabshah (RA) and then Syedna Dawood bin Qutubshah (RA) as his successors.
Syedna Jalal (RA) was ill when he was entrusted with the position of Dai al Mutlaq; he remained at the helm of dawat for just four months. He appointed Syedna Dawood bin Ajabshah (RA) as his successor and instructed him to appoint Syedna Qutubshah (RA) in turn, saying : “A mumin is one who creates another like him: every Dai must do likewise. Do not agonize over this for we have already chosen a successor for you and you shall do as we direct.” Syedna Shamsuddin (RA) renewed his nass on Syedna dawood bin Ajabshah (RA) five days before he passed away on the 16 th of Rabei-ul- Akhar 975 H. in Ahmedbad.
